Concept : Mots en -LY = -EMENT

Instructions
You already know hundreds and hundreds of French words!
French and English share the same root languages: Greek and Latin.
Both languages are about 40% Greek and 40% Latin, which means they are roughly 80% the same at the root level.
Let’s check it out!

Today’s focus: Words ending in -LY become -EMENT in French (adverbs).

Exercice 1 – Mixed Fill in the French word

1. Je joue au jeu.
= I play rapidly in the game.
2. Elle parle pendant le match.
= She speaks calmly during the match.
3. Il répond à la question.
= He answers exactly to the question.
4. Nous gagnons le match.
= We win the match easily.
5. Il travaille à Ottawa.
= He works diligently in Ottawa.
6. Je suis sûr.
= I am absolutely sure.
7. Elle comprend le problème.
= She understands the problem intelligently.
8. C'est vrai.
= It is generally true.
9. Il arrive après l'école.
= He arrives immediately after school.
10. Nous jouons ensemble.
= We play perfectly together.

Exercice 2 – Mixed Complete the sentences

11. Il court dans le parc.
= He runs slowly in the park.
12. Elle répond aux questions.
= She answers the questions normally.
13. Je parle à mon ami.
= I speak personally to my friend.
14. Il gagne le match.
= He will probably win the match.
15. Nous arrivons à la fin.
= We finally arrive at the end.
16. Le jeu est amusant.
= The game is totally fun.
17. C'est génial.
= It is really great.
18. Il comprend la règle.
= He understands the rule completely.
19. Elle explique le jeu.
= She explains the game simply.
20. Nous allons au parc.
= We are going directly to the park.
